5 reasons to choose a professional copywriter

For my first blog post I considered writing a general introduction to myself, but that felt a bit dry. So, I thought about what readers who visit my blog would actually want to hear about!
With more people considering their remote work options post-Covid and the advent of AI, why would anyone consider using the services of a professional copywriter?
Here are my 5 reasons why you should.
Specific training for copywriters
Ultimately, even with natural talent a career as a copywriter requires a certain level of knowhow nowadays. It's partly why it's such a rewarding area to work in, as you get to read and research about all sorts of things.
With training comes an awareness and comprehensive understanding of buyer personas, tone of voice, style, and practical aspects such as font size/typeface/etc. A lot of the groundwork comes into play before you even put pen to paper, and without proper training there are likely to be gaps.
And, hand in hand with training comes experience.
Experience
A number of years ago, I had a conversation that didn't fully resonate at the time. I was near to completing my undergraduate degree in Italian, and wanted to become a freelance translator.
Through family connections I was able to have a conversation with the owner of a translation agency about how I could make this happen. The advice given (which I didn't accept at the time!) was to get some work experience in areas I want to specialise in, then come back to translation once I had specialisms I could focus on.
In hindsight, this was probably the best advice I could have been given and applies to copywriting too. 'Fake it until you make it' only gets you so far. Knowledge and experience are ingrained for professional copywriters, which ensures that 'good enough' is consistently great.
Your reputation
Whose reputation? Your reputation! 'Buy cheap, buy twice' is the key takeaway here.
This is something that doesn't just apply to copywriting. Fairly often there is a correlation between how much you pay and the quality of service and/or output. So, if an estimate seems too good to be true then that may very well be the case. And, it may end up being your reputation at stake rather than the service provider. Buy cheap, pay twice: the real cost of bargain-basement copywriting is a good read for further context.
What's the solution? Do the same as you would if researching other services (for example, building work). Have a clear plan of what you want to have done, talk to several providers, look up reviews, get quotes, and make an informed decision.
How you can stand out from the crowd
Digital overload is a defintely a thing in the modern world. Too much information, too many sources, too little capacity to process it all. This begs the question, how do you stand out from the crowd if there is too much noise?
Professional copywriters love (and I mean LOVE) the challenge of writing creative copy, that will highlight your unique offering and set you apart from your competitors. Within the field of copywriting there are further specialisms such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) that make sure you have the best visibility for your great content.
So, please don't just think about someone who writes a nice turn of phrase. There's a bit more to it than that...
Support the creative industries
Let's face it, we are all struggling nowadays no matter what sector we work in. Struggling to find a job, struggling to keep a job, and even when we have a job we struggle to pay for even the most basic cost of living.
Deciding where to trim the fat from is not a simple question of cost. Think strategically. Think in terms of investment. Investing time and money into a venture where the return on investment is negligible or uncertain is unwise. With the right copywriter for your needs the return on investment should be measurable.
So, why not ask the question - how will I be able to see the impact your work has had?
